Program-ME Dojo Globalcode

Quick post, to bring back some life to this blog =)

About one month ago, on December 10th, Globalcode organized its first programming DOJO. The topic was Program-ME, Globalcode’s version of Arduino.

The idea of a dojo is to try to development/implement something, with the participation of the entire audience, instead of just the speakers doing “the hard work”.

The goal of this one was to develop a clone of the genius game, where the platform presents a series of lights and the player has to press buttons in the same order presented by its respective lights.

The session was mediated by Felipe Rodrigues and Alberto “Spock” Lemos. The code was to be written in C and, using Arduino’s tool, transferred to and executed in the device, a frankstein-thing assembled by Spock, heheh =)

In summary, it was a lot of fun, and I want more! I was the first to go there and code, which made me kind of nervous, but this was a nice experience, thank you Spock! =)

The only thing I didn’t like, and I would be happy to see improved is that they used a netbook as the development platform. And the keyboard of that thing is just too freaking small…

Globalcode’s Casual Class: Robotics

Yesterday held the seventh edition of the Globalcode‘s Casual Class, this time featuring Robotics. Like before, this is a meeting that includes technology, pizza and beer! Can’t get much better than that =)

This time, the event was mainly presented by Vinicius Senger, Paulo (not me =p), and Alberto “Spock”. They talked a lot about robotics (of course) and electronics. Although I don’t think I will be using any of this information soon, it was very fun!

One of the biggest topics was Arduino, and “Open Source” Hardware. This is basically a controller board that you can build yourself at home, with very cheap components.

They also did some nice demonstrations, and explained how Arduino works, going a little bit in depth. I can’t say I understood too much here, but it certainly got me curious to find out more. I hope to find some time to at least play a little bit with some ideas. If it happens, I’ll post my discoveries here for sure!

For example, they showed the Egg-Painting robot running, which they had mentioned in the previous edition of the Casual Class.
